Murray River

The mighty Murray River flows more than 3000 km, from its headwaters in the Snowy Mountains to the Murray mouth at Goolwa.

In South Australia, the river flows beside towering cliffs, stately red river gum trees, golden citrus orchards and deep green vineyards, and this section of the river is not affected by the flood water snags and sand bars that cause such problems upstream.

Known as Big River country, the best way to soak in the majesty of the river is from the deck of a luxury Houseboat. Ever changing scenery, flocks of birds, grazing cattle and drooping willows, all passing by at a leisurely pace.

Scattered along the way you'll find towns and communities which will provide you with ample supplies and a warm welcome. Riverglen is approximately a 5 hour cruise to Mannum, while Swan Reach is just 18.5 hours away with Blanch Town lock 1 around 22 hours. Moorings along the river are abundant and nights can be spent watching the sun set across the river.
